Umaru Yar'Adua has been sworn in as Nigeria's new president at a colourful ceremony in the capital, Abuja.
SAS Braathen security chief Bjoern Tvete-Berger says this will increase air travel security. The biometric security systems are systems which scan your fingerprints or the iris of your eye. The passengers are first scanned upon checking in, and are then checked for a match before boarding the aircraft. In this way it is ensured that the passenger entering the plane is the same as the one that checked in.

It is Røkke's aim to land his catch at the City Hall pier every Thursday morning, together with the other Oslofjord fishermen.
And it did not seem that the price was a problem. At NOK 70 (USD 12) a kilo, it took only two-and-a-half hours to empty the trays.

(Constitution Day), although the latter is less frequent.
The Constitution of Norway was signed at Eidsvoll on May 17 in the year 1814. The constitution declared
The celebration of this day begun spontaneously among students and others from early on, and for some years the king was reluctant to allow the celebrations. For a couple of years in the 1820s, king Carl Johan actually forbade it, as he thought the celebrations a kind of protest and disregard - even revolt. The king's attitude changed slightly after the Battle of the Square in 1829, an incident which resulted in such a commotion that the King had to allow it. It was, however, not until 1833, that anyone ventured to hold a public address on behalf of the day. That year, official celebration was initiated by the monument of the late politician Christian Krogh, known to have stopped the King from gaining too much personal power. The address was held by Henrik Wergeland, thoroughly witnessed and accounted for by a Swedish spy, sent by the King himself.
Read in full: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Constitution_of_NorwayThe theme of this study was medium of instruction (MOI) in secondary schools in Tanzania. The study investigated the extent of the problem of English proficiency among students and teachers and the way they cope with the Kiswahili-English dilemma during science lessons. Data was collected through a mixed methods approach whereby three main methods of data collection were used viz. participant observation, interview and quasi-experiment whereby comparative teaching/learning was conducted in English, Kiswahili and code-switching.
Findings showed that English is a problem for the majority of teachers and students, majority of whom could not express themselves clearly in English. The study also showed that in classes taught in English, a number of coping strategies were used as an attempt to surmount the language barrier. Those which were more frequently used and or had a great impact on students are: code-switching, safe talk, negative reinforcement (punishment) and English teaching as a coping strategy. In classes taught in Kiswahili these coping strategies were rarely used. Test results showed that students who used Kiswahili as MOI performed better than the other two groups. Performance for English MOI was the poorest.
From the findings it was concluded that that the use of Kiswahili as MOI promote participation during lessons and improves performance in tests and minimize the differences in performance among students while for English it was the opposite, and for code-switching it was mid way. On the other hand English as MOI is a barrier to effective teaching/learning in Tanzanian secondary schools. This barrier can be surmounted by instituting Kiswahili as MOI in Tanzanian secondary schools.

Aftenposten.no received confirmation that Oslo police had arrested at least five of six brothers centrally placed in the gang. Three of the five were in custody before the raids.
Armed police moved into the Furuset district of Oslo, where assorted gang members reside, and at least two arrests were made here.
The raids are part of a major police offensive against criminal Pakistani gangs, a project that began in the autumn of 2006.
Police stormed over ten addresses in the Oslo are. According to information received by Aftenposten.no, the raids were not confined to members of the B-Gang, but also to family members that may have profited from their criminal activities.
At the same time, a major police offensive against Norwegians in Natal was mounted by a total of 230 officers, with Norwegian police assisting their Brazilian colleagues.
According to NRK's (Norwegian Broadcasting) web site, there was a target list of 23 names of arrest targets in the Brazilian city. The list was not restricted to members of the B-Gang who have invested heavily in property there but also a number of other Norwegians.
Search warrants had been procured in order to investigate persons with economic means not in keeping with their declared income, Oslo police said in a press release.
"The action is part of a strategic choice where we have chosen to focus on economic investigation. The objective is primarily to secure and seize proceeds believed to be the profits of criminal operations," said police inspector Iver Stensrud.

Kijana,
Perhaps you are just addicted to fame and popularity,
or you just don't know what you are really doing in
State House. But whatever it is, you're leading the
nation in wrong direction. And as a former statesman,
I feel duty-bound to warn you at this time before you
plunge our beloved Tanzania into a bottomless pit.
Please stop squandering public money jetting around
the world in search Of fame and popularity while
millions of children back home who can no longer have
milk to drink are starving to death. You need to be
sensible and sensitive statesman. Take me for example;
my immense popularity at home had been based not on
wild promises of a golden future but on a clear-eyed
appraisal of the hard work that was ahead of me, the
work of correcting and undoing the wrongs and errors
of colonial institutions.
And as it was back then, I still believe, and that is
what it should be, that nobody is great without work.
For that reason, you need to weigh up your demeanor.
Tell Tanzanians to get off their butts and work. Not
just work, but work hard. Your economic team needs to
do the same, too.
There is no economic growth in this modern era that is
triggered by old primitive ideas. Jakaya, you are
perhaps aware that during my entire 24 years of
presidency, I never at once believed in begging. And
that is why I tried as hard as I could to break away
from Western donors by attempting to achieve
self-supporting state through "ujamaa" policy. Of
course, it proved disastrous due to lack of individual
incentives, but I tried.
Mmh, I don't wanna sound inquisitive here, but with
all due respect, what new thing have you tried in your
first year in office? Don't answer that...
I know it is not for me to tell you how you should run
the country, but the truth of the matter is: where
there is too much expectation and too little hope,
despair among people will always seem greater. You
have created false expectation to Tanzanians promising
to give them golden future, but I see no any viable
plan to accomplishing that.
Concerning mining policies, your ultimate goal is not
clear yet. Russia has tried to assert more control
over its oil and gas resources, Venezuela and Bolivia
have moved to curtail oil companies; but in Tanzania,
companies which mine gold, diamonds and other germs
pay only royalties and low wages but no corporate
taxes. It makes no sense to me!
Three decades ago, Batswanas were suffering exactly
the kind of suffering Tanzanians are suffering now
from Western investors. But when Botswana government
saw its reserves dwindling, it knew it had to take
further measures. It tightened its belt, pulled
together-and got through the crisis.
I suggest you do the same. Send your economic advisors
to Botswana so they can learn more on this matter
because the current state of mining industry in
Tanzania is too exploitive to be allowed to go on.
Also, you need to understand that the solution to
energy crisis lies within Tanzanians.
It's your responsibility as a president, to come up
with realistic energy plan, and implement it for the
benefit of the nation. Stieglers Gorge is still a
good option.
On East African Federation, I still see a lot of
mistrust among the Citizens of the regional countries
particularly in the issue of Immigration. I also see
some criminal elements like open sores waiting to be
turned into arrows of hatred. Intolerance. And for the
new members, Burundi and Rwanda, ethnic strife is
still my major concern. I, of course, more than anyone
else, do want to see the Federation in its place.
However, taking Tanzania into the federation at this
time is nothing but echoing the old mistakes of 1977.
Tanzania might be ready to join the Federation, but
Kenya and Uganda are still struggling with their
oldest problem, civil strife. Wakikuyu and Waruo.
Wakaramajong and Bagisu. Young man, though I often
disagree with you in many issues, I still care about
you and Salma. And I sincere wish you good luck as you
walk the long Road to build bridges to a better future
for all Tanzanians. And most of All, I wish you health
and unfailing energy.
Please don't forget to pass on my warmest greetings to
Fidel. Tell him that I kindly wish him a full and
speedy recovery. May God always bless Tanzania.
Sincerely,
Julius Kambarage Nyerere

Gilde is recalling its traditional Sommerskinke after finding pieces of metal clips in the ham.
"Internal controls revealed small pieces of metal clips on the surface of the ham," Gilde announced in a press statement. The metal clips, it says, are used to fasten the netting around the pre-cooked ham.
Consumers were being urged to return the hams to stores. Hams affected are those with production number 120 and LOT-numbers 7183, 7184, or 7185.
Gilde officials apologized for the inconvenience to both consumers and the retail stores involved.
Nina Sundqvist, communications director for Gilde's parent company Nortura, said the company will now evaluate whether to phase out use of the metal clips.
Gilde has been caught in a series of meat scandals during the past few years, including one involving E-coli bacteria.
