Brazil sealed a semi-final date with USA after a hard-fought 3-2 victory over Australia in Tianjin. With extra time just 15 minutes away, Cristiane netted a goal worthy of winning any game to see off the brave challenge of the Matildas.

The Seleção immediately assumed control and with just four minutes on the clock, Formiga's long-range strike dipped into the roof of Melissa Barbieri's net to give them the lead. Marta made it 2-0 from the penalty spot midway through the first half after Renata Costa had been felled, before the Australian fightback commenced.

First, Lisa De Vanna sprinted on to a loose back-pass, rounded goalkeeper Andreia and tapped into an empty net ten minutes before the break. Lauren Colthorpe's header then levelled the scores on 68 minutes as Australia displayed once again their remarkable spirit.

With coach Jorge Barcellos urging his charges to attack, however, Cristiane spun her marker and produced a superb strike from the edge of the box to send Brazil into the last four.
