New President of

Norwegian Parliament

The Labour Party's Dag Terje Andersen leaves the post of Labour Minister to become the new President of the Norwegian Parliament (Storting), replacing Thorbjoern Jagland who was chosen the new leader of the European Council.

Andersen has been a member of the Storting for eight years, and has led both the Finance Committee and the Committee for Municipal Affairs.

The President of the Storting is Norway's second highest official post, after the King. However, it is an administrative post, and he or she cannot make political decisions.
