When your application for a family immigration permit takes a long time to process
You have submitted all the documents and filled in the application carefully, so why does it still take a long time to process? Sometimes processing can take a long time because we have to carry out more investigations.
Case processing times can vary. As an applicant, you may find that, even though you submitted a well-documented application, the processing still takes a long time. There may be several reasons for this:
· If the Norwegian authorities are not absolutely certain that the information is correct, we must examine your documents in greater detail.
· We must carry out DNA tests in order to confirm an applicant’s identity or family relationship.
· We sometimes have to ask the police to interview the person living in Norway if we need more detailed information, and to ensure that a marriage is genuine, that it was not entered into as a result of coercion and that there is no risk of domestic abuse.
We receive many applications for family immigration. The UDI is constantly trying to reduce case processing times for family immigration cases. Read about case processing times.
If the sponsor has power of attorney in connection with the case, we send a copy of the decision to him/her once the case has been processed.
