At Willy’s Bar in the centre of Oslo a stone throw away from Oslo S train station, People of all races come together to get entertained because they feel welcome. The bar has special days where The Blues and Jam Sessions take centre stage every week. Musicians and non-musician music lovers gather for jam sessions on Wednesdays and have a good time that enables those who wish to exercise their talent in singing entertain music lovers.
The place is still new but has already managed to attract a large number of people. Each day of the week has its program that interests the guests. Willy’s bar has started to attract all kinds of people in Oslo who now go there for a drink, which is affordable, and later enjoy both modern music and some hot African tunes including, the well known Kiswahili song “Malaika Nakupenda Malaika”.
Willy, the brainstorm of the new bar, together with his partner Mr Singh from India are doing well in organizing the bar to meet the needs of different types of customers, each one getting the test they enjoy. The bar boasts of the Jam sessions where any musician or persons who love to hold the microphone and sing a tune are given the chance to do so.
Willy, a musician himself, plays music every monday. He loves to reggae-himself out and normally ends his session with the popular African song – Malaika Nakupennda Malaika – in English translation – I Love You My Angel.
Willy is a good-hearted man who when you arrive in the place, welcomes you in such a way that you will want to stay longer in the place than you planned. When off duty, he likes to join the customers, take two or three hot drinks to warm his night-out. While in it, he will move from a sitting place to sitting place chatting with the customers, a thing that he does well diplomatically.
The interesting thing about the place is the fact that no day is the same. While there, You will discover that apart from the live jam sessions, the place have a special day for “The Blues” and hot disco thereafter.
When this writer visited the place for a drink, the music was hot and people were having a good time dancing and drinking and for a moment chose to forget the minus winter temperature outside, a thing they will have to face when they leave the place for home later in the early hours of the morning.
