Warning against
computer espionage
The Norwegian National Security Authority (NSM) has issued a warning against increased attempts at industrial espionage through e-mail against Norwegian firms.
These are made through so-called Trojan horses, hidden in e-mail attachments.
These data programs then take control over the computer without the knowledge of the owner, and collects sensitive information about the company. The motive may be both economic and political, NSM states.
NorCERT, a section of the NSM, has regstered an increasing activity aimed against Norway, in particular against key personnel of both the public sector and private companies.
The Norwegian National Security Authority (NSM) is a cross-sectoral professional and supervisory authority within the protective security services in Norway.
The purpose of protective security is to counter threats to the independence and security of the realm and other vital national security interests, primarily espionage, sabotage or acts of terrorism.
