MwanaHALISI

premises

The Opposition has demanded an explanation from the government over invasion of MwanaHalisi newspaper offices and its executive director`s residence, by the police recently.

Presenting the camp`s view on Information, Culture and Sports ministry in Parliament yesterday, the shadow minister, Mwanawetu Said Zarafi, said many leaders have of late directed their blames over MwanaHalisi newspaper and its managing editor, Saed Kubenea.

``In the first incident, unknown people invaded MwanaHalisi offices and attacked Kubenea by splashing unidentified chemicals believed to be acid on his face.

As if that was not enough, the government through its apparatus, the police, recently went to search the offices of the newspaper and the residence of Kubenea, without revealing their objective,`` she said.

Zarafi said it was clear the police did not follow proper procedures, rules and regulations when they were searching MwanaHalisi office and Kubenea`s house.

``Should we then, conclude that the police are above the law? Even if they had a search warrant provided by the court, that was not the procedure.
