"I was a completely different person when I married her 40 years ago. Apart from anything else I was extremely shy, but with her help, I got over it," says King Harald as he looks fondly at his wife.
The Queen thinks her most important task is to give support to her husband.
"- and to help to put the spotlight on Norway," she adds.
On the August 29, the couple have been married for 40 years. They celebrate their anniversary with their children and their spouses and grandchildren on board the Royal Yacht Norge, spending the next few weeks visiting islands in the Adriatic and the Mediterranean.
Unlike their silver wedding, and major anniversaries, which have been celebrated with relations from the royal families of Europe, the couple chose to take the family on a cruise.
"We have no firm plans for the trip. We’ll have to see where the fancy takes us," laughs the King.He counts himself luckier than his father, who was a widower for much of his reign.
"Things have been simpler and much happier for us, since we have each other. King Olav was a lonely man," says his son, King Harald.
