Norwegian Prime Minister Jens Stoltenberg on Thursday called a hasty meeting with experts and government members to discuss the uncertain financial situation in the world.
Besides the Prime Minister, Finance Minister Kristin Halvorsen, Communicatons Minister Liv Signe Navarsete, Chief of the Central Bank, Svein Gjerdrem and Director of the Norwegian Banking and Securities Commission, Bjoern Skogstad Aamo participated.
The Prime Minister refutes the notion that there is a crisis in the Norwegian financial sector, and underlines the importance of cooperating with the opposition and the Storting (Parliament).
However, some observers see the meeting as a way to put pressure on the Chief of the Central Bank to cut the official pilot interest rate, in order to bring down the money market rate.
After the meeting Stoltenberg did in fact strongly indicate that a cut in the pilot rate would be forthcoming next week, according to NRK.
