Kredittilsynet has reported that certain stocks on the Oslo Stock Exchange have shown unusual behaviour recently and that the volume of short selling in these stocks has been high.
The Authority issued a temporary ban on short selling financial stock on Tuesday evening.
"The unusual movements in the stock prices is the main reason for this," says department chief, Eystein Kleven at Kredittilsynet to business website E24.no.
The Authority says that it may extend the ban to cover other financial instruments on the Oslo Exchange later. At the moment the ban is limited to shares in banks and insurance companies, such as DnB NOR, Acta and Storebrand.
