Major train stoppage

in and around Oslo

More than 40,000 commuters were affected by a full train stop at Oslo Central Station early Monday morning, after the overhead contact lines were broken several places in the central rail tunnel around midnight.

Most trains were turned around before reaching Oslo Central Station and replaced by buses.

However, according to NRK, there were not enough buses, and hundreds of passengers were waiting in line at the stations on the outskirts of Oslo in the morning.

The Norwegian Railways (NSB) were not able to say when the repair work would be completed, but predicted that it could take several hours before trains were again running on schedule.
