Development of a Future Water
Source for Dar es Salaam
Norway has decided to allocate 6 million US Dollars (42 million NOK) on a pioneer project for the assessment of availability of groundwater source for Dar es Salaam Water Supply.
Groundwater Study
Water is a scarcity in many areas of Dar es Salaam, and the pressure to develop new water sources is high.
The aim of the project is to establish the Kimbiji aquifer hydrological and hydro geological characteristics plus determine the safe yield and impact resulting from large scale exploitation. The population of Dar es Salaam is the target group of the project.
A Pioneer Project
- Norway is extremely pleased to fund studies to explore the sustainability of the deep water aquifer, which will pave the way for the urgently required extension of the piped water supply system in the city. The project is really a pioneer project, says Ambassador Lomøy.
The Ministry of Finance and Economic Affairs is the agreement partner, and the Ministry of Water and Irrigation shall have the overall responsibility for the implementation of the programme, while Dar es Salaam Water & Sewerage Authority (DAWASA) will be the implementing agent.
