We are a member organisation and are politically and religiously independent. Save the Children Norway is a member of the International Save the Children Alliance which works in 110 countries.

Country Director- Ethiopia

Our present Country Director will conclude his contract in September 2009 and we therefore seek a new Country Director. The country programme has 42 staff members and a budget of approximately MNOK 46.

Main responsibilities

  • Leadership, management and development of the country programme according to Save the Children Norway’s strategies and policies.
  • Represent Save the Children Norway in Ethiopia, maintain and strengthen our strong relationships with authorities, donors, partners and other Save the Children Alliance members in-country.
  • Promote child rights
  • Create an environment that promotes learning and sharing and promotes staff development
  • Work with partners to strengthen local capacity.
  • Maintain and develop efficient systems and procedures

Experience and qualifications

  • University degree
  • Relevant work experience, including significant international and management experience
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, fluent written and spoken English.
  • Good ability to develop and maintain a development programme
  • Knowledge of Save the Children Norway’s thematic areas such as child rights, HIV/ Aids or harmful traditional practices is considered an asset.
  • Strong leadership skills and ability to lead and motivate national staff and partners
  • Cultural sensitivity
