PhD Fellow (ref. no.: 2009/18715)
Biotechnology Centre of Oslo,
University of Oslo
A 3 YEAR POSITION AS PhD FELLOW
is available in Michael Leitges' research group at the Biotechnology Centre of Oslo (BiO).
BiO is a centre for molecular biology, biotechnology and bioinformatics within the University of Oslo. The centre is devoted to research and post-graduate training and with an overall vision to address cell signalling mechanisms relevant to disease.
We are seeking a person who is interested to work in the area of Protein Kinase C (PKC) mediated signaltransduction. The main focus of the group that now is looking for a PhD fellow is the phenotype driven functional in vivo analysis of mouse mutants which carry mutations in PKC and/or related genes. The given project will partly focus on a detailed analysis of the embryonic development of newly established mouse lines in the laboratory. In addition another aspect of the project will investigate and analyse the role of candidate¿s genes during tumour formation and progression using different cancer mouse models like it has been described by us earlier (Oster and Leitges, Cancer Res., 2006).
The candidate should have a strong theoretical background in cellular signal transduction and a broad spectrum of practical work experience with proven record in molecular biology. Thus the candidate should be familiar for example with complex DNA cloning strategies and their implementation, approaches to analyze genomic DNA and cell culture. Experience in various attempts of cell imaging would be an advantage. In addition and absolutely mandatory for this project is the willingness and capability to work with mice. Therefore experiences in mouse handling would be an advantage too.
The purpose of the position is research training leading to the successful completion of a PhD degree. We expect a highly motivated, enthusiastic person with the ambition to become an independent scientist during his/her PhD thesis. We offer an international highly competitive project in a teamwork orientated group with intensive supervision on a daily basis.
Requests for application information should be directed to CAO Ragni Indahl, ragni.indahl@biotek.uio.no.
Requests for further information and inquiries regarding the post can be directed to Group Leader Michael Leitges, michael.leitges@biotek.uio.no
The positions will be placed as SKO 1017, with salary range depending on qualifications: salary step 45-50 (355 600 - 387 500)
The submission deadline is the 5th of January 2010. Applications submitted after the deadline will not be accepted.

2) a one-page statement of motivation and research interests
3) CV, including contact information for references
4) Copies of Graduation Certificates
Send the application electronically as a single pdf-file to recruitment@biotek.uio.no labelled with REF. NO.: 2009/18715. Applications that are not complete will not be accepted.
