Hackers attack Dagbladet and VG

The web sites of Norwegian newspapers Dagbladet and VG crashed Wednesday evening, following massive attacks by hackers based in Turkey. The sites were down for two hours.

Dagbladet Chief Editor Lars Helle confirms to NRK that the paper's internet service was exposed to what is called a «Denial of service»-attack from hackers based in Turkey.

Some muslims in Norway have reacted strongly to Dagbladet's publishing last week of a caricature of the Prophet Muhammed. However, Helle refuses to speculate over the possibility that this had anything to do with the hackers' attack Wednesday evening.

The newspaper VG was also attacked in a similar manner, around the same time, by hackers based in France.

The two sites were back in normal service around 22:00 local time.
