Many Norwegians experience ID abuse

Over the past two years 124,000 Norwegians have experienced that their identity has been abused by others. This is shown by a survey carried out by TNS Gallup for the Center for Information Security (Norsis).
- The main reason for this is Norwegians' naivety, says Norsis senior adviser Christian Meyer. He says that ID theft has been a growing problem internationally, and that has now also spread to Norway at an alarming rate.
- We are generally too naive and have a great faith that socciety will solve all our problems, Meyer says.
He says an increasing number of swindlers make use of the social media to find the information they need.
- For one thing we need a central register where one may check if an ID document has been reported stolen, Meyer says.
