Dar es Salaam, Tanzania

Askari wetu avamiwa!

ANDALISM: The statue of the ‘lone soldier’ at the roundabout of Samora Avenue and Maktaba Street in Dar es Salaam, popularly known as Askari Monument, has been tampered with. Vandals have bent the bayonet of the soldier’s rifle, which is going to cost concerned authorities some amount of money for rehabilitation. The big question is: How could such an incident happen in an area that accommodates such highly-secured institutions as commercial banks and public offices with guards on 24-hour watch?
