Mobile phone experts in Norway say iPhones may not be sold or workable in Norway. Ole Kalvø, director of new markets for Dangaard, Norway's largest mobile distributor, told news service E24 on Thursday that iPhone won't be available in Europe until 2008.
It will be made available through large mobile operators like Vodafone and T-Mobile, but neither operates in Norway.
Mobile market analysts also doubt the iPhone will be available in Norway. Some say the phone is complicated to configure, and not designed for distribution through more than one operator. In the US, Apple has chosen AT&T.
The iPhone "won't work on many networks," said Kalvø. "It's not likely Telenor (Norway's major mobile operator) will reconfigure for the iPhone."
Others blasted Kalvø's claims, noting that since it's unlikely Dangaard will get iPhones to distribute, he may be consciously trying to dampen interest in the phone.
There's no doubt interest is running high in the US, and Apple products are increasingly popular in Norway. With a booming economy, massive use of mobile phones and a tech-savvy population, those lusting after an iPhone may only need to be a bit patient.
