Church of Norway divided over homosexual clergy

A majority at the General Synod of the Church of Norway has voted in favour of accepting ordination and appointment of persons living in registered same-sex partnership

The majority, 50 out of 84 delegates also states that there are two different views in the Church of persons living in registered same-sex partnership, and that there is scriptural basis for both.

This means that the practice may vary in the different dioceses, depending on the stand taken by the bishop and the church councils involved.

Among the delegates voting no to accepting ordination and appointment of persons living in registered same-sex partnership, was Bergen Bishop Ole D.Hagesaeter:

- This is a sad day for the Church. The decision will be dividing, and many will feel homeless in the Church, he says.

However, Hagesaeter says that as bishop he will still wish to appeal for unity, a advice against people leaving the Church in protest.
