Dear friends of Julieta and Rajab,
As you may have heard, we have not heard from Rajab and Julieta since they should have left Norway on December 19th, and their families in Zanzibar confirm that they have not arrived there. Our travel agent tells us that they never entered the plane from Norway, despite that we saw them check in and go through the security check.
As their friends, we urge you to read the below statement to them in case they get in touch with you, or send it to them if you know of any other email address, or phone number. This is the contact information that we have:

Dear Julieta and Rajab,We have been very worried about you, since nobody has heard from you since the 19th of December, when you should leave Norway. Our travel agent tells us that you never entered the airplane from Norway, which made us realize that you must still be in Norway, and that you have planned to do so, probably hoping to find a job and earn some money. We have to tell you that this is a VERY BIG MISTAKE. First, since you have a contract with DCMA that you should go back and give of your experiences from Norway. You have received the opportunity to come to Norway, not just for your own future, but for the future of DCMA, and the possibilities for many to benefit from this project, for many to have the opportunities to get a formal and professional music education, and also to go abroad to learn more. You are putting all of this in danger through your actions.
Secondly, If you stay as illegal immigrants in Norway, or Europe, those who offer you jobs will act as criminals, and you never know what they can do. As illegal immigrants, you also lose all your possibilities to ever get a new visa to visit Europe again.
We have reported you missing with the police. Your visas expire on 12 January 2008. PLEASE contact us before that, then we can help you return before you become illegal immigrants, and before you lose your possibilities to ever come back to Europe, and before you put the entire project in danger for DCMA and the future exchange of others. Best wishes, Tormod, Ragnhild and Muecke.

Samahani, if the above letter sounds a bit harsh. I wrote it as an email to their friends, and a friend posted it at the blog.
Just to explain: Julieta and Rajab have been teaching music and dance in Norway for a year, on a time-limited visa, through an exchange program that aims at strengthening their home institution with new experience.
I know it is unfair that it is so much harder for Tanzanians to get a residence and working permit in Norway and Europe, than the other way round. I also know that for Norway, it should not be a big problem to house two more people. But when going against the rules, fair or not, they block the way for those who were supposed to get the same opportunity as them. And they risk a lot, such as their possibilities of future visits to Europe (through the EU / Schengen visa system, which Norway is part of), and their social security (employee rights, health care etc.).
If they contact us, we will do our best to try to help them. I can also be contacted via email: tormod.w.anundsen@uia.no
Best regards,
Tormod
