Oslo has climbed in the ranking of the world’s most expensive cities. Only Moscow, Tokyo and London cost more to live in.
The rankings, made by the consultant firm Mercer, compare the prices of accommodation, transport, food, clothes and a list of 200 goods and services in 143 cities around the globe.
Last year, Oslo was in tenth place, climbing to fourth position this year. Next on the list are Seoul, followed by Hong Kong, Copenhagen, Geneva, Zurich, Milan, Osaka and Paris.
New York is the 22nd most expensive city, while Asuncion in Paraguay is the least costly place polled.
The top-twenty list still has traditionally expensive cities in Western Europe and Asia, but Eastern Europe, Asia and India are climbing in the rankings.
A weaker US dollar, which has made American cities less expensive, has similarly made Oslo more expensive.
"Two main reasons have pushed Oslo up the list: a stronger dollar and higher house prices in Norway," says Eivind Lind of the daily business paper Dagens Næringsliv.
