Kikwete first African leader
to meet Obama

President Jakaya Kikwete is expected to be the first African head of state to meet US President Barack Obama since his inauguration. President Kikwete and his delegation arrived here on Saturday, for a week-long official tour and is scheduled to visit President Obama at the White House on Friday.
The US President, who recently marked 100 days in office, is reportedly under tremendous pressure from African nations and their diplomatic representatives in Washington to leaders from the continent. According to a programme released by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Co-operation, the President will also meet with the US Secretary of State, Hilary Clinton and the IMF Managing Director, Dominique Strauss-Kahn, in Washington DC on the same day.
The President is accompanied by the Minister for Foreign Affairs and International Co-operation, Mr Bernard Membe and Zanzibar Minister for Labour, Youth, Women and Children Development Affairs, Ms Asha A. Juma.
On Monday, President Kikwete will visit Stanford University and later Google headquarters, as well as the IBM University where he is to be briefed on the firm's activities in Africa, cognitive computing project and IBM BlueGene Supercomputer.
On the following day, President Kikwete will tour the Sillicon Valley, where he is scheduled to hold talks with CISCO, Google and IBM executives.On Wednesday, President Kikwete flies to Los Angeles for a number of activities, including the Global Water for Life Event hosted on Thursday by the House of Mohans.
