Burundi refugee arrested with two SMGs, bullets

POLICE have arrested a Burundian refugee in Rukwa Region and recovered two sub-machine guns (SMGs) with 44 bullets and four cartridges from the asylum seeker believed to have been involved in a string of armed robberies in the country.

Police Force spokesman Esaka Mugasa told a news conference in Dar es Salaam yesterday that the refugee nabbed with the powerful military weapons was identified as Alex Petro, a Hutu by tribe, from the Mishamo refugee camp in Mpanda District, Rukwa Region.

A sub-machine gun (SMG) is a firearm that combines the automatic fire of a normal machine gun with the cartridge workings of a pistol, and is usually between the two in weight and size. SMGs are extremely powerful and mainly used in military warfare.....
