Just before midnight, with two thirds of the votes counted, it was clear that the municipal elections had been a disaster for the Socialist Left Party (SV), which had lost the support of nearly 50 per cent of its voters. The winner was the Conservative Party, which looked to again become the nation's second largest party.
The Labour Party also gained support, and retained its position as the largest party.
The Liberal Left Party had also made substantial gains.
We will be back with the final results, after all votes have been counted.
