The Prime Minister of
Norway visits Tanzania
20-22 April 2008

The Prime Minister, H.E. Mr. Jens Stoltenberg, will arrive in Dar es Salaam in the evening of 20 April. He will be accompanied by his wife, Mrs. Ingrid Schulerud. The Prime Minister will have bilateral discussions with H.E. President Kikwete and key members of Government at State House on Monday 21 April.
17/04/2008 :: The Norwegian Minister of the Environment and International Development, H.E. Mr. Erik Solheim, will be part of the Prime Minister’s delegation.
The Prime Minister is in Tanzania to develop further the strong and solid relationship that exists between Tanzania and Norway, both on national and global level. Tanzania has for over 30 years been among the development partners of Norway and is at present one of Norway's main partner countries. The Prime Minister will in particular look into issues related to climate change and forestry; maternal and child health (the Millennium Development Goals 4 and 5) and the UN reform.
On Monday 21 April, the Prime Minister will travel to Ruvu Forest Reserve to meet with local farmers and a female forest entrepreneur. He will also look at the demonstration of Tanzania Traditional Energy Development and Environmental Organisation’s stoves and sustainable energy technologies. The field visit to the Ruvu Forest Reserve will symbolise the start of a new collaboration on forestry and climate change between Norway and Tanzania. This new Partnership will be launched at State House the same morning. The new Partnership between Tanzania and Norway is a continuation of a long-term collaboration on forestry between the two countries
On Tuesday 22 April, the Prime Minister will visit Mtwara to learn more about the achievements and the challenges facing the Tanzanian health systems, in particular health services for women and children. In 2007 Norway and Tanzania entered into the Norway – Tanzania Partnership Initiative (NTPI) - a co-operation that aims at reducing maternal and infant mortality rates in Tanzania. In the evening of 22 April Prime Minister Stoltenberg and H.E. President Kikwete will launch the Deliver Now advocacy campaign for improvemnet of maternal and child health.
