International

Geological

Congress in Oslo

This week

Oslo is this week hosting the International Geological Congress, and about 6000 participants from 120 countries make this geology conference the largest science congress ever held in Norway.

The conference, held 6-14 August, was opened by King Harald at the Norway Convention Centre at Lillestroem.

It is not only for professional scientists. The public is welcome to visit the congress at the Convention Centre .

The most important speeches from there will also be shown for free by webcast in the old university building at Universitetsplassen in Oslo.

Also at Universitetsplassen, children and young people are invited to participate in fun activities between 11 am and 6 pm on 6-9 August. Children can try the geology quiz and the geology-related treasure hunt, and young people can get information about geology studies.

There will also be stands and exhibitions at Universitetsplassen, and those who want a unique souvenir can shop for minerals, fossils, jewelry and meteorites.
