jobs in
Tanzanians have been asked to take Kiswahili language as an important tool that will make them get a lot of employment opportunities in Uganda and the entire East African economic block.
In an interview with ``The Guardian` here yesterday, the Tanzanian High Commissioner to Uganda, Rajab Gamaha, said the language could create thousands of jobs to Tanzanians in the region.
“Kiswahili is getting more popularity in the region and specifically in Uganda. Ugandans here are willing to learn and speak fluent Kiswahili but there is nobody to assist them,” the High Commissioner said.
He said the Ugandan government recognises the language as among the key tools and very soon it would be taught in primary schools.
``But the problem they have been experiencing is that they have no teachers. So why Tanzanians can`t take up this as a challenge and embark knowledge business,`` he stressed.
He however, called upon Tanzania`s media owners to go in Uganda and invest in publishing Kiswahili newspapers.
According to him, there are no Kiswahili newspapers or electronic media that run programmes in Kiswahili.
Ambassador Rajab noted that majority of Ugandans understand the language but the only problem they can`t speak the language properly.
``To me I think this is one of the opportunities that Tanzanians need to effectively work on,`` he added.
Commenting on the regional media conference for Science Communication, the High Commissioner said there was a need for developing countries to put in the forefront issues related to science and technology.
He said ICT was an important cornerstone towards country`s development.
``The idea of specialisation is highly recommended in this era. The media therefore need also to get into specialisation for best outputs on scientific issues,`` he concluded.
