demonstrations in Oslo

The police have detained nine persons after demonstrators set off fireworks outside the Israeli Embassy in Oslo on Monday evening. There was also a peaceful demonstration outside the Parliament Buildings (Stortinget).

Speaking outside Parliament Sosialist Left MP Marte Thorkildsen said Israel is responsible for the development in Gaza and the other Palestinian areas.

- Not only terrorists but also civilians are hit by the bombs from Israeli warplanes agaist one of the most densly populated regions in the world, Thorkildsen said.

- All who wish for a peaceful future for Israel must protest against Israel's conduct, she said.

The demonstrators outside the Israeli Embassy set off fireworks and threw rocks and burning missiles against the police.

There are no reports of injuries. Those detained will be questioned by the police, before it will be decided whether they should be released or kept in custody.
