Strict requirements for
temporary work permits
The Ministry of Labour and Social Inclusion (AID) has instructed the Norwegian Directorate of Immigration (UDI) to adopt a stricter practice when granting temporary work permits to asylum seekers. Asylum seekers now need document their identity in order to get such a work permit.
An asylum seeker may be granted a temporary work permit. A new condition for this permit is that there is no doubt about the identity of the asylum seeker. The change means that the UDI will differentiate between asylum seekers from countries that provide passports or national identity cards, and asylum seekers from countries that do not provide these documents.
For some nationalities it will be practically impossible to document their identity. These asylum seekers will be required to present their identity as highly likely.
