Stolen religious painting
recovered
The famous Renaissance painting worth NOK 20 million which was stolen from the Larvik Church in Vestfold early Sunday, has been recovered, apparently unharmed. One man has been arrested.
A spokesman for the Vestfold police precinct said Wednesday evening that the painting had been found in a van, and was now in police hands.
One person has been arrested, charged with having participated in the theft, police said. They were not willing to give more details at this time, but say the investigations continue, and that they may make further arrests. Tracks left at the time of the break-in indicated that more than one person was involved in the theft.
The painting by Lucas Cranach (1472-1553), a personal friend of Martin Luther, has hung in the Larvik Church for 330 years.
The painting titled "Let the small children come to me", and was painted 450 years ago.
