Norwegian Police communications

old fashioned

The Norwegian police still use fax and telephone to inform colleagues nationwide in case of national emergencies. It may take up to two hours before all police presincts are informed.

Already after the NOKAS robbery in Stavanger five year ago the police warned that they lacked an effective nationwide alarm system. However, it will still take some time before a new system is in place, NRK reports.

In Sweden the police have been able to alert colleagues directly through a computer-based network nationwide for the last 30 years.

A spokesman for the Norwegian Police Directorate says the new alert system is just around the corner, and that lack of finances has delayed the new network.
