The bachelor’s degree in police education comprises three years of studies which are completed at the Norwegian Police University College. The programme is professionally oriented, and provides a broad theoretical and practical foundation for police work.
The purpose of the bachelor’s programme is to educate thoughtful and vigorous police officers who are able to prevent crime, enforce the law, and provide assistance in a manner which attends to the legal protection and safety of the citizens, as well as the interests of society at large.
Upon completing the programme, the students shall be capable of undertaking general police duties. Further, through theoretical and practical training they shall become able to solve ordinary police tasks.
THE STUDENTS SHALL HAVE DEVELOPED
● a thorough understanding of the role and function of the police in society
● knowledge, skills and attitudes which form a solid foundation for preventing and combating crime, as well as promoting safety, order, and security under the law.
● an understanding of themselves, and an awareness of their own competence, behaviour, and personal responsibility when undertaking police duties
● an ability to reflect critically, and to see policing within the wider context of society
● knowledge, skills and attitudes which can contribute to new thinking and continued development of the police service
● a foundation for further training and education, as well as specialization
