The Chief of the Oslo Police is said to have been informed about the formation of the Surveillance Detection Group (SDU) at the US Embassy in 2000, according to the newspaper Aftenposten.
Anstein Gjengedal (photo), who was the head of the National Authority for the Investigation of Economic Crime (ØKOKRIM), became chief of the Oslo Police in 2000, following Ingelin Killengreen, who became Police Director the same year.
This was also the year that the SDU moved into the premises across from the US Embassy.
The leadership of the Oslo Police is said to have been warned several times about the SDU activities, also by the Norwegian Police Security Service (PST), the newspaper reports, quoting unnamed sources.
