Using the Linksys E4200 to schedule blocking internet access and websites

Summer is the season for children to play outside and enjoy the beautiful weather. However, more and more kids spend their free time online on their smartphones, laptops, tablets and gaming consoles. Websites like Facebook and YouTube are visited by kids multiple times each day. A lot of parents are struggling to stay on top of emerging technology and get their children to focus on other activities without having to physically take these devices away.
Cisco has developed a new technology, the Linksys E4200 Maximum Performance Dual-Band Wireless-N Router, that not only provides fast, HD/3D quality streaming for home theater, internet and gaming, but also helps parents manage their children’s online activity. The stylish, advanced router enables parents to take control of all internet-connected devices in the home. With the Linksys E4200 parents can actually specify the times their kids are allowed internet access and what websites they can or cannot visit. For example, if your child’s bedtime is 10pm, you can set the router to disable your child’s device from being able to access the Internet during the night.
You can also block certain websites during specified times or permanently. Your personal devices are still fully functional and connected to the web. So if you know your child spends a lot of time on Facebook in the evening when he or she should be focusing on homework, you can block access to the site from his or her devices at times that you specify.
You don’t have to be tech-savvy to set up the Linksys E4200 thanks to Cisco Connect, a software app included with the router that walks you through the process. The router includes a Guest Access feature that allows your visitors to access to your Internet connection but not your devices or data. The Linksys E4200 has a WPA/WPA2 encryption and SPI firewall to help keep your network protected.
