NORWAY: A female Conservative politician on the South Coast of the country has been sentenced to ten months imprisonment for physical and mental abuse of her daughter.


A female Conservative politician on the South Coast of the country has been sentenced to ten months imprisonment for physical and mental abuse of her daughter. The penalty of the appeal is the same as the initial hearing. 

The woman must also pay NOK 60,000 in restitution to her daughter, who is today  in her teens, writing the online newspaper. Both courts have placed great emphasis on her daughter's testimony. 

"The Court of Appeal concluded that the accused is guilty of (...) repeated abuse of her daughter (...) who has for years been exposed to massive psychological harassment and on occasion physical violence," said the verdict . The abuse has been going on for several years, from 2005 to 2012. 

Defender Sol Elden says the woman takes the verdict very heavy, and that it has been appealed. 

- We register the appellate court's conclusion, but is certainly totally disagree with the verdict, says Elden. 

Despite pleas from the party,has the woman not sought leave, but has been active in politics while the case is ongoing. The leader of the Conservative council group would not comment on the case where it stands now. 

- She has been active until the summer, but now it's summer, he told the online newspaper.
