Company linked to

former First Lady

is a big rip-off

’This firm gives loans to civil servants, particularly teachers, who have complained to me about the huge interest rates they are forced to pay’

A FINANCIAL services company linked to the family of former president Benjamin Mkapa has been ripping off scores of Tanzanian workers by operating as a loan shark, a member of parliament has declared in the National Assembly.

According to Godfrey Zambi, the Mbozi East legislator on a ruling Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM) ticket, the Dar es Salaam-based BayPort Financial Services has been taking advantage of lowly-paid civil servants, particularly teachers, by charging borrowers’ interest well above acceptable levels.

The MP told the august House in Dodoma this week that the company associated with former first lady Anna Mkapa (photo) and other prominent persons has so far given a good chunk of its local clientele what amounts to a raw deal.
