SAS cuts more jobs in Norway
A reduction in air travel is forcing Scandinavian airline SAS to cut between 200 and 250 jobs in the technical department this year, according to the newspaper Stavanger Aftenblad.
Most of those who will be laid off are today working in the maintenance deparment at Oslo Airport Gardermoen.
Director Per Magne Mathisen at SAS Technical Services Norway says the job cuts are caused by both a reduction in air travel, as well as reduced use of the MD-80 passenger aircraft.
- The MD-80 is an aircraft which demands a high level of maitenance, and reduced use means less demand for maintenance, Mathisen says.
