New campaign to attract skilled

labour to Norway.

The Norwegian National Labour Office (NAV) has started the largest drive ever, aimed at attracting more European workers to Norway. The campaign begins in Poland on Wednesday.

The reason why it starts off in Poland is that there is already a large number of Polish workers in Norway.

- Our experience is that many Polish workers are skilled craftsmen. They can be trusted. They do a good job, says NAV-director Erik Oftedal.

He says Norway's economic development is totally dependent on our managing to get more more skilled workers to cross the border into Norway, both engineers, data experts, health workers and workers for the building and construction industry.

- There is also a shortage of people within the travel industry, and many companies are lacking drivers to transport staff and goods, Oftedal says.

He says the unemployment rate in Poland is still around 10 per cent, and that NAV has been invited by the Polish authosities to set up a stand in Warsaw.
