POLICE in Mbeya Region are holding a 40-year-old woman, Rose Mwambimbili, for allegedly beating her husband to death on Monday night, Mbeya Regional Police Commander Suleiman Kova confirmed here today.
Mr Kova said Rose allegedly committed the offence at Mambowo Village in Mbeya District following a family dispute which culminated in a fight. During the fight Antony Majanga, the husband, was overpowered by his wife and, consequently, battered to death.
The RPC said the deceased had all along been weak due to an illness. He, however, declined revealing the nature of the dispute. When interviewed by reporters at the central police station here, the accused denied the accusations. She said the charges were being fabricated by fellow villagers.
Meanwhile an angry mob has beaten to death two residents of Chanji area in
Sumbawanga Municipality in Rukwa Region for, allegedly, invading a shop and stealing two bags of wheat flour worth 30,000/-.
Rukwa Regional Police Commander Germanus Mponguliana named the victims as Joakim Mwaihojo and Thomas Kibona whose ages were estimated to be between 20 and 25 years .
The incident occurred on Sunday at Chanji area in the municipality when the victims, armed with clubs, invaded a retail shop owned by a person identified by one name as Mwakabungo. The mob allegedly beat the victims to death and set their bodies ablaze.
