********************************

Dear customers, employees and other stakeholders,

During the last few weeks, the management, board of directors, and the shareholder of Sterling Airlines A/S have been fighting a battle to keep the company alive. Sadly, this has not had a positive outcome, and we have therefore decided to file for bankruptcy which will be done later today.

Background

During the last three years, Sterling Airlines A/S has been through a lot of changes and since acquired by new shareholders in spring 2005 the company has taken on a merger with Maersk Air A/S.  In 2005, the total loss of both airlines exceeded 800 MDKK and both owners wanted out one way or the other.  Therefore, all jobs in both airlines were at stake and so was also the competitive landscape in Scandinavian aviation since only the presence of a low cost carrier would ensure healthy competition and pricing on the market.

The merger process started in the autumn of 2005 and lasted until mid-year 2006, and by that time we employed over 1,200 employees with far more job security than before, and we had expanded our route network to enable more customers in Scandinavia to travel for less money.

Our operation was progressing positively and our finances were improving considering the massive losses that had been encountered in the preceding years.  In 2007, we were doing very well and saw that more and more customers were choosing Sterling, and we ended the year with a positive EBITDA (operational profit) for the first time in many years.

Oil and financial crisis

With the global financial recession that started in the autumn of 2007, Sterling by winter 2007 – 2008 was seeing signs of stagnation in the market. Significant fuel cost increases, and at the same time a planned heavy expansion of our activities, made us more exposed than we would have been otherwise.

By spring 2008, the airline industry was hit by decreasing demand and rapidly increasing fuel prices. That led to Sterling accumulating large losses. During summer and autumn the management of Sterling implemented a restructuring plan of the company resulting in a reduction in fleet and manpower, and a pull-out of a lot of loss-making activities, without compromising our services. The full effect of these actions were planned to have impact start of 2009.

To get the company restructured, the shareholder of Sterling gave financial support from the end of July 2008 to the end of September 2008 transferring 444.5 million DKK to the company. The plan was to continue financial support into 2009.  On the 29th September 2008, the Icelandic financial environment started to collapse. Over a 3 to 4 weeks period, the whole financial system melted down, and that resulted in our shareholder being unable to continue his support to the company. Negotiations have been conducted with several potential investors, but it was impossible to make ends meet.  The inevitable result is that Sterling Airlines A/S has no option but to file for bankruptcy.

Sterling Airlines’ trademark has always been excellent staff and service. Among the staff the Sterling spirit will continue to exist.  We have made our mistakes over the years. But hopefully we have done more right than wrong, and at least we have made the market more competitive to the benefit of our customers.

Information to Sterling Passengers

Customers who have directly purchased their tickets on Sterling’s website will unfortunately not be refunded neither will their return flights. You therefore have to book your return flights with another airline company.

If you have paid for a flight by credit card, we advise you to contact your bank or credit card company to ask for a possible refund.

Customers who have booked their flights through a travel agency or tour operator should initially contact them.

Passengers who have booked their tickets through Sterling, but is flying with Norwegian, should contact Norwegian directly on one of the below phone numbers:

+47 21490015 (from outside Norway)

815 21 815 (from Norway)

Passengers currently staying abroad in hotels, or hiring a car through Sterling business partners, are still able to stay in their hotel or keep the hired car for the relevant period of time, as such services are paid for through our business partners and not Sterling. However as for your return flight, you will need to find alternatives for your final destination.

Please note that if you have booked your travel/hotel/car through a travel agency or tour operator, please contact them upon your return for possible refund of expenses for your return flight.

We understand that most travel insurance does not protect holders from airline insolvency but should you have taken insurance please contact your insurance company for clarification.

We will later put on a FAQ and hope that this will help you in this very unfortunate situation.

Mikhail Saakashvili,

Georgia´s President in Oslo

Mikhail Saakashvili, embattled president of Georgia, paid a visit to Norway's top officials on Wednesday, and firmly blamed Russia for an armed military conflict in August.

The tensions between Georgia and Russia no longer top the news scene like they did last summer, having given way to the drama surrounding the international financial crisis. But for the Georgians, the conflict remains very much at the top of their agenda.

Saakashvili brought his message to Norwegian Prime Minister Jens Stoltenberg, who wasn't willing to place blame himself.

"There is disagreement about what happened in August, and there have been serious accusations made from both sides," Stoltenberg said. "Therefore we need an independent, international investigation."

Stoltenberg said he was glad Saakashvili was positive about such an investigation. "If it results in findings that there has been a serious violation, this will of course be a case for an international court," he said.

Georgia launched a major attack on South Ossetia, which has tried to break out of the republic with assistance from Russia. Saakashvili claims an international investigation will reveal that the war was "a clear case of aggression by a large country."

Stoltenberg welcomed the Georgian leader to Oslo. Saakashvili was also meeting King Harald at the palace.

JUA CALI - KENYA BEST

MC COMING TO

OSLO NORWAY

I was born Paul Nunda on the 12th of September 1979.I started rapping when I was in Jamhuri high school but I was not that actively involved in music. After finishing school in 1998 that´s when I got active into music.

I hooked up with Clemo my childhood friend and started calif records in the year 2000.At first I was meant to be a producer and look for guys who would rap. We hooked up with a few guys but things did not work out coz they did not have faith in us. So with pressure from clemo and a few friends I was forced to pick up the mic myself. And in the year 2001 'JUACALI' was born.

Basically the name 'JUACALI' comes from my estate. It simply means 'know California ' coz so many guys don’t know where calif is. I released my first song 'RUKA' a dedication to Calif the same year which to our surprise went on to top the charts. In 2002 I released my second single NIPEASALI, which also did well on the local charts. In 2003 I decided to lay low for a while and do videos for my previous songs. By mid 2003 I had done videos for 'RUKA' and 'NIPEASALI'.

That´s when things started opening up and people started to appreciate calif records more. In 2004 I released my third single 'NIKIPOTEA TENA, which blew up like nitro. Basically the song was a big up to all the towns we had toured in 2003. Mid 2004 I hooked up with Pilipili a guy who had just signed with Calif records and did a party joint called 'KAMATA DAME' which blew up like crazy.

It topped the charts on all radio stations. You can still hear it in clubs and in all matatus. And the video a luch production is one of the hottest videos ever produced in Kenya . I have just released a mini album 'juacalisekta the mini album' which contains my old songs and a new song featuring Jimwat. The mini album is currently doing well on the underground scene. Am now putting the final touches on my full album 'JUACALISEKTA' hopefully it will be out by midyear. So watch out!

Personalized plates

finally come to Norway

Nearly forty years after they debuted in places like California, personalized license plates can soon start adorning cars in Norway. Some Norwegians are already calling them an "ego trip," others think they'll just be plain fun.

RELATED STORIES:

It was back in the early 1970s that Californians started sporting plates like "10SNE1" (Tennis, anyone?). The trend spread through the US, and eventually overseas.

Norway is coming a bit late to the game, and not without controversy. Some egalitarian-minded Norwegians, who don't always value those who stick out in a crowd, have been skeptical to the idea and Transport Minister Liv Signe Navarsete initially vetoed a plan to introduce personalized plates (also known as "vanity plates" in some areas). "Fancy plates are just vanity," she told news bureau NTB last year. "I don't want a system here in Norway where car owners can buy themselves a special plate."

But when it became clear that the state could generate more needed revenues by producing such plates, and that public opinion was against her, she changed her tune.Highway officials are now working on a new data system that, when introduced next year, likely will allow Norwegians to create and order their own personalized plates.

Motorists will need to pay extra to do so. That in turn can bring in more money for needed highway projects.

It remains unclear how much the extra fee will be for personalized plates, but newspaper Aftenposten reported it likely will be around NOK 300 (about USD 40). Earlier reports have speculated it will be much more.

Plates stick with the motorist
The plates also will stay with the motorist ordering them, not with the car itself. So if the motorist sells his or her vehicle, the plates will be removed and can be remounted on another car. That's a change from the current system in Norway.

Ivar Fjeldberg, chief engineer for the state highway department, said it hasn't yet been decided how many numbers or letters can be used on a plate. Today's maximum is seven.

Motorists are fairly free to let their imaginations run wild, but state officials won't allow any phrases that can be considered offensive.

Norway boosts aid

to Iceland

The prime ministers of all five Nordic countries were meeting in Finland on Monday, to discuss the ongoing financial crisis. Norway planned to offer bigger loans to Iceland.

Prime Minister Jens Stoltenberg says it's "natural" to help a Nordic neighbour in need.

PHOTO: MORTEN HOLM/SCANPIX

RELATED STORIES:

Norwegian Prime Minister Jens Stoltenberg said on national radio Monday morning that it was "only natural" to step in and help a fellow Nordic country when it faced such acute problems as Iceland does.

Stoltenberg noted that Iceland faces declines in national revenues, acute liquidity problems and rising unemployment.

He said it was most likely that Norway, which already has promised aid, would extend and increase its offer of credit from Norges Bank, Norway's central bank.

Iceland also stands to be granted an emergency loan equivalent to around NOK 14 billion (USD 2 billion at current exchange rates) from the International Monetary Fund. Stoltenberg said he thinks that's a better solution than the prospect of seeing Iceland borrow money from Russia.

Stoltenberg said the other four Nordic countries (Norway, Sweden, Denmark and Finland) could build on the IMF funding.

"That's a much safer and better arrangement than having just one country (Russia) stand for the entire loan," said Stoltenberg, stressing the need for Nordic cooperation.

Tackling trouble from Glitnir
Icelandic officials now handling the assets of Reykjavik-based Glitnir Bank, meanwhile, said they will try to pay claims made by Norway's export finance agency Eksportfinans. The Norwegian agency last week accused Glitnir's Norwegian operation of misappropriating funds involving loans it had handled as an agent for Eksportfinans.

Arni Tomasson, leader of the new emergency board now running Glitnir Bank, said the alleged misappropriation was a result of errors, not intentional fraud. He said the bank's administrators feared Eksportfinans' claims would sour relations with Norway itself.

Glitnir's administrators stated that relations between Iceland and Norway were "very important," and if the bank had made mistakes, they would do everything in their power to resolve the trouble, in close dialogue with Eksportfinans.
